The GAPS Factor

We’re officially calling it The GAPS Factor in our house!!!  Yep..  we’ve done it…  we’ve all started the GAPS Diet as of Sunday…  it’s only day 4 and well…  there’s been some resistance to say the least..

For those of you who don’t know what GAPS is it’s Gut and Psychology / Physiology Syndrome and affects a large proportion of the population, many just don’t know it’s affecting them.  The principle is linked to the Gut, Leaky Gut and the effect it has on our body and brain function…  but I’ll get into that more in the GAPS section of my website soon.

Back to The GAPS Factor…

Day 1 – started with soup and a cup of warm broth for breakfast, infused with a teaspoon of home made sauerkraut juice…  sounds delicious doesn’t it???  To be fair, it went down fairly well..  perhaps novelty factor – I’m not sure…

As day 1 continues…  the soup factor has worn off by mid afternoon I hear the cry from my youngest “what…  soup again???” At this stage my gorgeous daughter is still trying to be supportive…

By the end of Day 1 there had been multiple trips to the bathroom by some members of the family, sore tummies as die off began and sudden losses of appetite and early nights…

Day 2 – “Oh God”..  they said…  not soup AGAIN!!!  Surely it wasn’t another day of soup…  suddenly noone was feeling that hungry so to be honest, there was minimal food and broth eaten and drunk but in saying that…  we managed to get through

Day 3 – finally we moved onto Stage 2 – never have I seen my kids so keen to eat a stew…  so Stew for breakfast it was with a generous serving of broth…  Although the day did start badly with some die off reactions for Zac that weren’t appreciated…

The evening of Day 3 brought tears and tantrums…  (and that was just me!!!) of feeling like it was too hard, everyone hated it and was wishing I was a “normal” mum….. But soldier on we have..Although this is the image I woke up to this morning:

Whiteboard message Aaliyah

So here we are Day 4 – no die off symptoms, everyone is feeling pretty right, just a bit tired still and no reactions as different foods are being introduced…

I’m sure the mood will change as my son comes in for the umpteenth time wondering when we’re going to have “afternoon tea”, I haven’t got the heart to tell him it’s probably not going to be what he’s thinking..

I’ll keep you posted..

Until then, Stay Calm and Stay Healthy…

Sonia
